On Sunday, Woodbine will host the $1 million Queen’s Plate Stakes, Canada’s most prestigious race. Restricted to horses foaled in Canada, the classic mile and a quarter contest has drawn a field of thirteen three-year-olds.

On Saturday at Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby undercard will begin with the $300,000 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile. A Grade 2 event, the race will be contested at one mile on the turf and has drawn a field of nine fillies and mares.
The $1 million Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 6 at Churchill Downs figured to be a particularly competitive race when it was announced in mid-April that the undefeated Songbird wouldn't make the race. That proposition has been fulfilled as a field of 14 is set to contest the mile and one eighth event that truly looks like a scramble on paper.
On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $100,000 New York Stallion Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies sired by New York-based stallions, the race will be contested at six and a half furlongs and has drawn a field of eight.
Perhaps lost in the shuffle of final Kentucky Derby preps April 16 was another superlative performance by superstar filly Tepin who won the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes - her fifth consecutive victory including three grade 1 wins - with laughable ease.
On Sunday at Oaklawn Park, the featured race is the $400,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap. Scheduled to be run at six furlongs on the main track, the Grade 3 event has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.
