While their classic distance counterparts will take center stage on Saturday in the Mother Goose Stakes (G1), sophomore sprinters will shine in Sundays $150,000 Victory Ride Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park. A field of seven fillies will go to post in the six and a half furlong contest.
The slight favorite at a morning line of 5-2 is Milam, a daughter of Street Sense trained by Eddie Kenneally. Jose Lezcano will be back in the irons after piloting her to a runner-up finish in the Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs. She has won three of her seven starts and will be attempting to earn her first graded stakes victory. Milam will break from post position three.
Second choice at 3-1 and breaking from post six is the Todd Pletcher-trained Red Velvet, a three-year-old daughter of City Zip. The bay filly comes into this race off of a two-race win streak and won her Belmont Park debut in the Jersey Girl Stakes in May. Bred in Pennsylvania, she also won a state-bred allowance race this year in what has shaped up as a key race.
Miss Behavior, a three-year-old daughter of Jump Start, is third choice at 7-2 for trainer Phil Schoenthal. Regular rider Sheldon Russell will be aboard after guiding her to a win in the Miss Preakness Stakes in May and the pair will break just inside of the favorite. A four-time winner, Miss Behavior won the Grade 2 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park last fall.
