Cali Star Looks to Shine in $150,000 Heavenly Prize Invitational Stakes

On Saturday at Aqueduct, the stakes action will kick off with the $150,000 Heavenly Prize Invitational Stakes. Carded at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track, the stakes race has attracted a field of seven fillies and mares.

Cali Star tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 8-5 for trainer Martin Wolfson. A five-year-old daughter of Street Cry (IRE), she is out of a graded stakes winning mare and has four wins from nineteen starts. Last year, she made her graded stakes debut a winning one in the Rampart Stakes (G3) and was last seen finishing second in the Houston Ladies Classic Stakes (G3). Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be aboard and they will break from post position six.

Four-year-old debut for Include Betty

Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Include Betty for trainer Tom Proctor. A four-year-old daughter of Include, she is a multiple graded stakes winner and has five wins from fourteen starts. She has been on the shelf since finishing second in the Valley View Stake (G3) at Keeneland in October and has been training steadily in Florida. Aaron Gryder will be aboard and they will break from post position four.

Mei Ling looking for breakthrough win

Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Mei Ling for trainer Todd Pletcher. A five-year-old daughter of Empire Maker, she has been on the board in thirteen of her seventeen starts and will be trying to earn her fourth victory. She is a minor stakes winner and was last seen finishing third in the Maryland Racing Media Stakes. Jose Ortiz will be aboard and they will break from post position two.
