Chad Brown Sends Two Chileans and a German to Post in Grade 3 Very One

Chad Brown Sends Two Chileans and a German to Post in Grade 3 Very One

Category : News - Thu 03/03/2016 - 20:52 EST

With just six horses set to contest the Grade 3 Very One March 5 at Gulfstream Park, handicappers will probably be best servedlor to zero in which Chad Brown trained import to bet in the mile and three sixteenths turf race for fillies and mares.

2/1 favorite Dacita will likely be much lower than her morning line price while making her seasonal debut. Trained by turf ace Chad Brown, the Chilean bred and raced Dacita began her U.S. career last year in style with a victory in the Grade 2 Balston Spa at Saratoga. From there, the then four year-old filly was trounced in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at the same distance she'll try in the Very One, while the Balston Spa victory came at a mile and a sixteenth. Brown's decision to bring the mare back at the same distance as the Breeders' Cup is a telling decision that distance was probably not the cause for the poor performance as Brown connects with an astounding 28% of his runners returning from 61-180 day layoffs. Leading rider Javier Castellano gets the call breaking from the rail.

Brown's other Chilean gets rematch

Interestingly, Brown will saddle another Chilean bred and raced horse. This one, Guapaza, will be making her first start in America as the 5/2 second choice. A multiple group 2 winner in Chile, Guapaza enters on a three race winning streak despite being unraced since July 15. Guapaza also faced Dacita in their native country where Dacita defeated her by two lengths in 2014.

Olorda makes three for Brown

Brown's third entry, Olorda (3/1), is a German bred and European raced filly who tried a pair of grade 1 races in North America last year while failing to make an impact. Olorda has not raced since being well-beaten in the Grade 1 Matriarch November 29 at Del Mar.
