Category : News - Fri 18/03/2016 - 16:07 EDT

On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the $500,000 Santa Margarita Stakes. A Grade 1 event for fillies and mares, the race will be contested at a mile and an eighth on the main track and has drawn a field of seven.

Taris has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the competitive field at odds of 8-5 for trainer Simon Callaghan. A five-year-old daughter of Flatter, she has been on the board in ten of her eleven starts and is a seven-time winner. After beginning her career sprinting, she has been able to prove to be equally as effective around two turns and is coming into this race off of two consecutive victories against graded stakes competition. Gary Stevens will be in the irons and they will break from the outside post.

Penwith looking for second straight graded stakes win

Second choice at morning line odds of 2-1 is Penwith for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A five-year-old daughter of Bernardini, she is out of the graded stakes winning mare Composure and has won five of her thirteen starts. She is undefeated from two starts this year and broke through and earned her first graded stakes victory last time out in the Royal Delta Stakes (G2). Mike Smith will be aboard and they will break from post three.

Consistent Tara's Tango a force at Santa Anita

Also in the field at morning line odds of 2-1 is Tara’s Tango for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. A four-year-old daughter of Unbridled’s Song, she has been on the board in seven of her nine starts and is a three-time winner. Last time out, she won the Santa Maria Stakes (G2) in what was her first graded stakes victory. Rafael Bejarano will be aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position two.
